The downtown is usually the heart of every community. Historically it was the center for trade, gastronomy and social interaction. Ilmenau downtown
In coordination with the Ilmenauer Kaufleute und Gewerbeitreibende e. V., the Ilmenau city council applies for and organizes up to four open Sundays per year. Due to the restrictions caused by the Corona pandemic, the planned events had to be canceled in 2020.
For the year 2021, open Sundays were applied for in the context of the following events:

The city of Ilmenau provides financial support to voluntary associations and actors in the planning and implementation of events that contribute to the revitalization of the city center. It is also intended to encourage and support new initiatives and ideas that contribute to the revitalization of the area as the pulsating heart of the city of Ilmenau.
