This museum presents the toys and other artefacts that were part of daily life in the GDR years, 1949 to 1991. There is also an intriguing permanent exhibition of the toys made in the GDR for export to the West of Germany and to the COMECON countries.

Manebach, a nationally recognised holiday resort, is administered as part of Ilmenau and has a Visitor Centre (Haus des Gastes) which hosts not only the Tourist Information office but also the local history room (Heimatstube). Here, in 40 m², the history of place and people is told.

Guided tours of the fluorspar mine start every half hour and are composed of three sections: a round trip on the mine railway through the picturesque valley of the Schorte, a journey on the underground wagon into the adit; and an introductory film.
